Thanksgiving and a Time to Appreciate in Others

I love Thanksgiving. It’s a time where we acknowledge gratitude. This Thanksgiving let us do something different. Thanksgiving is a time to share with others how grateful we are to have family and friends in our lives. There is nothing wrong with that. This year, let’s find something great in those around us. Let’s switch out grateful for appreciation.

Appreciation may sound like it’s the same as the word grateful. However, they are different. Appreciation is recognizing something great in someone else and letting them know about it.

Steven Covey taught us, “the greatest need of a human being is to be understood, validated, and appreciated.

Thanksgiving Table Go-Around

So this year, why not go around the holiday table and publicly appreciate each person? So talk about something specific that you love or admire about them.

Jane,  I appreciate how creative you are, how loving you are, and how much love you give my grandchildren.

John, I appreciate your humor, your generosity, and your big smile.

Now, I think you get the idea, right?

Grass is Always Greener Where You Water It

You know the grass is always greener where you water it, and this is true in relationships. The more you can express genuine appreciation for the people in your life, the stronger your relationships will become, and the more fulfilling your life will be.

I thank all of you who have given me your trust in helping you discover where you want to head and how you may connect better to others.

I love Thanksgiving because it’s not about material gifts. It’s about friends, family, and the glorious connection of others.

Have a lovely Thanksgiving and go ahead and share your appreciation to all those that you love, admire, and respect.

Bless you all.
